It was great to get back into the classroom last week. Thank you to all of the students for a very warm welcome. It was a busy week! We finished up the last unit of inquiry and students confidently presented their new learning to each other. The presentations were informative and creative!
The Harlem Globetrotter's made a visit to L.J.A. to convey an important message about bullying and to show some of their tremendous ball handling skills. Kai and Evan enthusiastically helped out by showing some of their own skills!
Thursday was the last all school flag ceremony. We were all proud of Garrett, Hunter, Gabe and Dante who were recognized by The Wounded Warrior organization for their efforts and action during Exhibition.
After several practices for the Moving Up Ceremony the fifth graders are ready and excited for one last Lower School event on Monday night.
Finally, our fifth grade Beach Day was tons of fun. Students enjoyed a day of surfing, paddle boarding and hanging out at the beach. What a great way to celebrate the end of the year!
I can't believe that the end of the year is here... Saying goodbye always comes with a mixture of joy and sadness. Students have grown, blossomed and matured in so many ways. I am proud of how far they have come. They are curious and passionate and have an exciting future ahead of them. I feel fortunate to have been their teacher this year and am very appreciative of your support.
Summer suggestions to help your child maintain academic skills-
*Spend time on Khan Academy, sign up for an account with a home email.
*Read, read, read- Start your own book club with your child by reading the same book. Students love talking about the books they are reading.
Students who read during the summer months continue to make gains in reading comprehension, those that do not read lose skills gained during the school year.
*Watch CNN Student News online, talk about current events and check out Wonderopolis for the Wonder of the Day
*Set up a blog or continue using kidblog to keep writing this summer
Events This Week-
Moving Up Ceremony - Monday at 6 PM- Be in the classroom by 5:45
Splash Into Summer & Talent Show - Wednesday
