Exhibition Theme
WHO WE ARE
An inquiry into the nature of the self; beliefs & values; personal, physical, mental, social and spiritual health; human relationships including families, friends, communities and cultures; rights and responsibilities; what it means to be human.
We completed our unit, Who's Got the Power, and are in the beginning stages of Exhibition. We started by reviewing the 5 essential elements of PYP. This is important as we begin the Exhibition Process. The focus is on utilizing and placing importance on all the elements; Knowledge, Learner Attitudes, Skills, Key Concepts and Action.
Exhibition is a time for students to demonstrate the attitudes, show their skills, build knowledge and take action.
It is a journey of intense learning!
Next, students looked at images and identified local and global issues. They presented their findings during Advisory.

Next, students looked at images and identified local and global issues. They presented their findings during Advisory.
Students then generated a list of issues that they felt fit into the theme, Who We Are. We reviewed the brainstormed list and checked to see which issues were both global and local. We are continuing to explore issues and researching to see if these issues are local as well as global.
Students will make final decisions on the issue that they are passionate about this upcoming week and groups will be announced.

How to support your 5th grader-
In the next few weeks as we begin our Exhibition journey one of the ways you can support your child is by checking in and asking them questions. Questions about what they are learning and what they find interesting show that you are interested and supportive. However, it is important for us to remember that Exhibition is truly a collaborative effort. Encouraging, modeling and nurturing these important life skills are essential for students to be successful throughout the process. Students will be working closely with their groups over the course of the next 7 weeks.
They will find out their groups early this week.
Social skills play a big role in the process.
Support your child by asking these types of questions:
On a scale of 1 to 5 how would you rate your group's productivity today?
How did you contribute today?
What kind of communicator were you?
How did your group make decisions today? Did you have to compromise?
What did you learn about yourself ?
What is one thing that you can do that will help your group?
What did you learn today and what questions do you have about your topic?
